On 11-18 October 2018, the Second Edition of Tbilisi Biennale of Stage Design will be held by Valerian Gunia Union of Young Theatre Artists – the OISTAT National Centre of Georgia.

Georgia will host young scenographers and artists from Canada, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia and Hungary. The Biennale consists of two main parts: International Exhibition and Masters’ Lab.

Two Georgian expositions will be presented at the International Exhibition – a Youth Pavilion and Gogi Meskhishvili’s School of Design.

Within the framework of Masters’ Lab, the Biennale’s educational programme, international experts will deliver lectures and master classes in the fields of scenography, curating, sound and light design in post-dramatic theatre, video and multimedia art and visual engineering.

An accompanying event within the framework of the Biennale is the Regional Forum of Young Performing and Visual Artists which consists of presentations and discussions with participation of young scenographers. Representatives of the National Centres of the International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) from the United Kingdom, Serbia, Russia, Israel and the Netherlands will participate in the Forum.

The goal of the Biennale is to establish a new international festival in Georgia which will facilitate exchange of information about contemporary trends in the field of visual and theatre arts, enhance international partnerships and cooperation as well as intercultural dialogue. It aims to support professional development of young scenographers, promote the establishment in Georgia of new professions such as light design, sound design, multimedia scenography and introduce new methodologies; to develop the field in general and contemporary Georgian scenography in particular as well as to promote Georgian culture.
